How do you keep colour consistent across several printers?

Consistency comes from a closed PDF and a written colour reference, not from forwarding the file on WhatsApp until it is crushed. Do not switch printers halfway through a menu run if you have not kept that reference.

Ask the printer you trust for the paper name and the profile they used, and store it with the file. The second printer receives a photo of the poster and the red comes out orange. You get a folder with the PDF, the paper and the colour note, the same one you send if another shop prints it one day.
