What light avoids ugly shadows when you shoot a plate from above?

From above, the ugly shadow is avoided with a broad light from the side, not with a spot directly over the plate. The overhead of a bowl needs that fill; a single spotlight leaves a black ring at the rim.

If the dish is a bowl, do not put it under the ceiling lamp. The miss is shooting from above with the phone light and drawing your own shadow in the sauce. The overhead frame that is delivered does not have that ring; if it appears, the light is changed before it is accepted.
