How do you design a matching favicon and avatar?

The favicon and the avatar are the mark reduced to what reads in a circle of a few pixels, not the whole logo shrunk. It does not match if the site shows an initial and Instagram shows the full name, unreadable. The horizontal logo is exported and the network crops the middle. A scrap of a letter is left and the venue looks like somewhere else. You leave with two square files: an avatar for social and a favicon for the tab, plus the one-ink version. The sheet shows the crop, so nobody uploads the landscape logo again.
