Is it worth hiring an agency that specialises in restaurants instead of a generalist agency?

It is worth it if the team asks about service and comes into the venue. It is not worth it only because the website says “hospitality”. tuinsta.design works with restaurants, bars and neighbourhood shops in Madrid: the useful specialism is knowing how a table fills, not collecting the word restaurant.

What specialisation actually shows

A specialist agency shows when it talks about turns, dish margin and whether the booking arrives by phone, by WhatsApp or by a widget nobody watches. It shows when it proposes photos at service time, not a calendar of motivational lines.

A generalist can work if they ask those same questions and agree to come to the venue. The label matters less than month one. The reverse happens too: there are “restaurant” teams that only deliver a feed and have never asked how many covers you do on Thursdays.

Where each option breaks

The generalist breaks when it treats the restaurant like an online shop: long funnels, lead magnets, brand reports. A neighbourhood guest does not download a pdf. They want a time, a menu and how to get there.

The specialist breaks when it recites hospitality clichés — “product storytelling”, “foodie community” — and never looks at your street. Specialism without a radius is a costume. In the Community of Madrid the radius is the neighbourhood, the sierra or the district, not “Spain”.

  • Have they asked about turns and average ticket?
  • Are the photos made in your room, or do they ask you for assets?
  • Does month one have pieces you can count?
  • Do they separate ad spend and production spend?
  • Can you leave at three months if the floor does not feel it?

The test that actually separates them

You do not separate them with a pretty proposal. You separate them with a month: one session, the Google listing brought up to date, and a clear path from the post to WhatsApp. If after that month you only have likes, the agency’s surname does not matter.

tuinsta.design does not sell itself as the only possible restaurant agency. It is a team of two — Cristina on design and photography, Carlota on content and marketing — that works the venue in Madrid and nearby. If your case is a national brand with ten sites, we are probably not the fit. If it is one house, it is worth a conversation.

How to decide without romanticising the niche

Choose whoever can explain month one out loud and has seen a dining room like yours. If both finalists can, keep the one who visits and the one who leaves photo rights clear. The niche on the letterhead does not fill Thursday.

If you want that contrast with us, describe the venue on WhatsApp. We ask about the floor before we talk about channels.

A trial that fits service

If you are stuck between a restaurant label and a generalist who asks good questions, do not settle it in the meeting. Settle it with a month that includes a visit, one piece published toward WhatsApp and the Google listing reviewed. A team that cannot do that in thirty days will not do it in a year with a better-looking proposal.

We accept that trial because the work is already like that: Cristina in the venue, Carlota on the message. We do not need a quarter of “onboarding” to know whether Thursday fills. If after the month the venue feels nothing in messages or on the floor, it gets said and it stops. That exit is part of being a small team, not a flaw.

The niche is still not a charm. A team that has only done large consumer brands, and still walks into your kitchen and talks about turns, can be better company than someone who collects other people’s plate photos on a website.

If you want to test it with us, the message does not have to argue that we are “a restaurant agency”. It has to say what kind of room you have and what is failing: the photo, the listing or that nobody asks for a table. From that you can see whether a trial month fits. Without it, any agency — niche or not — will tell you a case that is not yours.
